My Post-Election Statement
We have now had our election. First, I wish to thank all those who supported me in this election. My final vote total was 66,505, which was 29% of the votes cast. These were the highest vote total and percentage of votes cast for any Republican running in a Bay Area congressional race. This result came from a campaign in which I raised only enough money to put a ballot statement in the Voter Guide. That statement emphasized my two guiding principles, inclusiveness and limited government with fiscal responsibility. This is a message that gets votes. Again, I thank all those who contributed to help me get out this message.
As many of you know, I did not support the Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, in this election because he campaigned on a theme of divisiveness and not on inclusiveness and had no definite plan for fiscal responsibility. However, he won and I congratulate him on this. In his election eve victory speech he struck a very different tone, calling for a binding up of the wounds of the election campaign and promising to serve all Americans. I and most Americans wish President-Elect Trump well and will support him in that effort.
