On May 31, I participated in a debate with the other two candidates in the June 7 primary election for the 18th Congressional District of California, the incumbent, Democratic Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, and Democrat Robert Harlow. The debate was sponsored by the Stanford Daily of Palo Alto and KMTV, the local cable access television station serving Mountain View. The debate was uploaded to YouTube by KMTV and can be viewed here.
My principal debate theme was that the national debt has doubled in the past eight years and that we must get our financial house in order or we will go broke. And, in that case, we won’t be able to afford any of the programs being touted by the other candidates, like housing, health care, education, pensions, and transportation. Instead, we will end up with an economic disaster like Greece, Venezuela, and Detroit. Neither of my debate opponents had any answer for this and simply ignored this issue for the entire debate. This kind of head-in-the-sand approach by politicians never solves the problem, although it often gets the politicians re-elected until the roof finally does collapse.
The issue of Donald Trump’s candidacy also came up during the debate. I reiterated my press release of May 5 in which I stated that I will not be voting for Mr. Trump in either the primary or the November elections, based on shortcomings in Mr. Trump’s policies, character, and temperament. Instead, I announced that I will be voting for Gov. Kasich in the primary on June 7 and, in November, probably for the Libertarian nominees, former Rep. Gov. Johnson of New Mexico and his Vice Presidential choice, William Weld, former Republican governor of Massachusetts.
Thanks again for your support.
